I first moved over to Australia from Ireland with two of my girlfriends in June 2019 on a one year 417 working holiday visa. Adamant to get our farm work done we moved to far north Queensland in search of work. Unfortunately, the season wasn’t so great and the decision was made to split up. This brought me to a small town in regional NSW – called Trangie – met some amazing people and felt like home straight away. This allowed me to get my second year 417 visa and my third year. Covid struck and well we all know how that went – the world stopped.
This brought me to Perth where I have lived for nearly four years. Getting work with a company which offered sponsorship was initially quite challenging. One company fell into administration and thankfully another company took on my visa. Perth has been amazing with the biggest challenge not taking enough time to explore all the hidden wonders over here!!!
Regional Australia is truly the heart of Australia. Although Perth is classified as regional, it is a vibrant city in its own right—without the chaos and crowds of Sydney or Melbourne.
After many years working up my experience and finding an employer to sponsor me, getting that call and email to say I finally got my PR is indescribable. It was a huge personal accomplishment for me. The ability to make decisions about my future here and not have to worry about living visa to visa is just incredible. Can hand on my heart say even though it was a process it was worth every minute once you get it.
I was sponsored through the Skills in Demand 482 visa before my same employer nominated me for permanent residence through the Subclass 186 employer sponsored pathway.
