Adam and Laura | Subclass 801 Visa

From the very initial consultation, Julie and her team at Migration Downunder were superb. I think Laura and I are naturally quite anxious people, so Julie did a fantastic job of making us feel at ease about our situation and allaying our fears about the partner visa process. The Migration Downunder team were extremely diligent and supplied us with all of the help, advice and support we needed during the application (including much-appreciated guidelines and templates for all of the paperwork involved!) Julie conducted a thorough review of all of our documentation before we submitted.

Adam and Laura’s Story – Subclass 801 Visa

Tell us a little about yourself

I’m originally from the Scotland and came to Australia in 2013. I met my partner, Laura, in Sydney around 5 and a half years ago after we’d been messaging through a dating website. We had our first date in Marrickville and found we had a real passion for so many similar things. We moved back to the UK for a couple of years in 2018 and, when COVID struck and Laura’s British Youth Mobility visa expired in 2020, we had to undergo a long-distance relationship for over a year. Being separated for so long was a really torturous experience, but fortunately I was eventually able to return to Australia in May last year after the borders reopened. It was at that point that we contacted Migration Downunder to discuss ways in which I might be able to stay with Laura here permanently.

How was your experience with Migration Downunder?

Laura and I were really worried about how long it might be before we heard any reply from the Department of Home Affairs about our partner visa application, but incredibly, thanks to the work of Julie and her team, I was granted 801 and 820 partner visas in November last year after only a few months’ wait. There are days when we wake up and still can’t believe it!

What are your plans for the future?

Since my visa was granted our love has gone from strength to strength: we got engaged in Italy in February last year, so we’re currently in the process of planning an elopement back to Scotland in a few months’ time!
