Adrian’s Story – Subclass 189 New Zealand Stream
Tell us a little about your background
I was originally from South Africa. Moved my family to Auckland, New Zealand in 1997. We moved to sunny Perth in 2011.
What made you want to live in Australia permanently
I got a job offer while in New Zealand that was very alluring, and did not want to turn down. Remembering that you’ll always regret the opportunities that you do not take, and that became the motivation for the move to Australia. Very quickly we realised that the lifestyle here was incredible. The early sunrises and the later sunsets meant that we had a lot more of our day available to us to be able to enjoy the beach lifestyle a whole lot more.
“Julie and the entire staff were so very attentive and pro-active in dealing with not only us, but also with the various departments that we needed to interface with. We were kept up to date on all new changes in legislature and any changes that arose , and these were handled efficiently, professionally and smoothly. Honestly, you need the lovely people from Migration Downunder to help you navigate through, what would otherwise could have been a very challenging time. Having the Migration Downunder team in your corner is extremely valuable and worthwhile asset to have.”

How has your life changed after permanent residency in Australia?
Although I had the right to live and work in Australia- being a New Zealand citizen, I needed to be able to move my career forward. Having Permanent Residency has meant that I can , later this year, apply for Australian Citizenship, and thereby apply for the IT Security clearances that my role more than often requires. The upper reaches of security clearances are only available once we have Australian Citizenship. It really feels as if a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. This also means that we get to participate in voting in Australia and thereby have our voices heard democratically.
