A Journey to Permanent Residency in Australia

From the UK to Australia: Finding a New Home
I arrived in Australia from the UK at the age of 21, fresh out of university, with a degree in hand but no clear idea of how to use it. On a working holiday visa, I quickly fell in love with the country and was determined to extend my stay. That determination led me to Bundaberg, where I spent three months picking lemons on a farm to qualify for a second-year working holiday visa.

But as time went on, the challenges of staying in Australia began to mount. After studying in Sydney for two years to become a licensed builder, I faced an unfortunate injury that, combined with the strict visa requirements I was under, seemed to spell the end of my Australian journey.

Finding a Lifeline with Migration Downunder
That’s when Migration Downunder stepped in. Julie and her team explored every possible option to keep me in Australia. After many discussions, my Australian partner and I decided that a partner visa was the best and only path forward.

Applying for a partner visa is a complex and time-consuming process, but with Migration Downunder’s expertise, it became a stress-free experience. Their efficiency and professionalism ensured that not only was my partner visa granted, but the transition to permanent residency was seamless.

A Bright Future in Australia
Migration Downunder has been instrumental in shaping our future. Thanks to their support, I was able to stay in Australia, marry the love of my life, and build a new chapter here. In December 2024, Alex and I celebrated our wedding in the picturesque Hunter Valley, surrounded by our families from both Australia and the UK.

Today, we own property in Sydney and are living a life we once thought was out of reach. Australia is now home, and we couldn’t be happier.

Living the Australian Dream
What do we love most about Australia? The weather! It’s such a simple thing, but it transforms your way of life. From outdoor BBQ areas and picnic spots to bike trails and beer gardens, the sunny climate makes it all possible and brings a smile to your face—even on a Monday morning. It’s a stark contrast to the dark and grey skies of a UK winter.

Overcoming Challenges Together
While the economic climate can present challenges, we’ve found ways to adapt and thrive. Living in Marrickville, we’ve discovered hidden gems like incredible Vietnamese restaurants where you can enjoy a feast for under $20. It’s all about knowing where to look and making the most of what’s available.
