Both Australia and New Zealand have similar point based system. You get allocated points for your age, work experience, qualification(s) and your occupation must to be listed on the relevant Skilled Occupation List.

Conclusion

For those who do not meet the points test for Australian General Skilled Migration but want to look at New Zealand believing that it would be easier; unfortunately, it is not. Unless you have your occupations listed on the Long Term Skill Shortage List and obtain bonus points; or have a job offer from a New Zealand employer, you are not going to be able to reach the minimum requirement pass mark.
