I’m Stacey, 39 years old, originally from the UK. I lived in Dubai, UAE, with my now-husband from 2009 until we moved to Australia in April 2024. My husband and I have been together nearly 20 years. He was born in Adelaide back in the 1980s, and after being away since childhood, we decided to return to Adelaide where his parents now live.
The type of visa you applied for
I arrived in Australia on a Tourist Visa (subclass 601), which then transitioned to a Bridging Visa A when Migration Down Under applied for my Partner Visa (subclass 820/801).
Where in Australia you’re currently living and any challenges you’ve faced adapting to life here
We’ve chosen Adelaide for its family connections, relaxed pace, and the joy of having four proper seasons again. After years in Dubai’s constant heat, I love being able to enjoy cool winters and sunny but comfortable summers. The hardest parts have been finding jobs and building a new social circle, but my husband found work six months ago and we’re slowly meeting more people.
Your experience working with Migration Down Under
We found Migration Down Under through a Google search. With the stress of moving from the UAE, we knew we needed expert help with my visa. After reading their positive reviews, we reached out. Julie was our first point of contact, advising us on the correct visa and the process involved. We then worked with Silvana, who guided us through the application, ensuring everything was in place before submission. Our application took 14 months to be approved, with no issues along the way. I was fortunate to receive a double grant of the 820/801 visa.
Your plans now that you have your Australian permanent visa
With my visa secured, our focus is on making friends, exploring Australia, and settling into our recently purchased home with our two cats. I’m also looking forward to rebuilding my career and finding work in the coming months.
What’s the best thing you like about Australia?
The weather—it might sound funny, but after living in Dubai for 15 years with only “hot” or “super-hot” seasons, it’s a joy to experience all four seasons again
