COVID-19 and Australian Partner Visas Update

Are You In a Relationship with An Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident?

The current uncertainty has highlighted the importance of ensuring you are aware of your options for migrating to Australia and taking appropriate action.

If you are in a relationship with an Australian citizen or permanent resident you may be eligible to proceed with a permanent residency under partner migration.

With the announcement, by our Prime Minister Scott Morrison, on 20 March 2020 of the enhanced border restrictions for non-Australian residents and citizens and if you and your partner are together or in different countries now is the time to consider applying for a partner visa

To proceed with a partner application you must either be legally married or in a de-facto relationship and be sponsored by your Australian citizen or permanent resident partner.

To apply on the basis of a de-facto relationship you need to evidence:

  1. You have lived together for 12 months and that your relationship is genuine and continuing; or
  2. Your relationship is registered with Births, Deaths & Marriages and the relationship is genuine and continuing
