Further Concessions for Temporary Skilled Workers

In further recognising those skilled workers who remained in Australia throughout the pandemic; new legislative updates have been announced for additional concessions allowing 482 TSS workers to extend their stay in Australia as well as doing away with the age requirement for ‘legacy 457 workers’.

These will commence from 1 July 2022.

Age Exemptions for 457 Visa Holders

A new Instrument introduced on 4 April 2022 allows an exemption from the age requirement for specified persons, in this case legacy 457 workers.

A ‘Legacy 457 Worker’ is a person applying for a Subclass 186 visa application who:

(a) held a subclass 457 visa on or after 18 April 2017; and

(b) was in Australia for at least 12 months between 1 February 2020 and 14 December 2021.

No age limit has been specified for legacy 457 workers in this Instrument.

Applying for a 3rd Onshore Subclas 482 (TSS) visa

A third application for Subclass 482 (TSS) visas can now be made onshore where the applicant:
