Reunited in Australia through a Subclass 864 Aged Contributory Parent Visa

For many years I dreamt to have my parents living at least in the same country as me. I am the only child in our family and my parents always have been wonderful, understanding and supportive.

Rodrigo, originally from Brazil, spent many years living in New Zealand before becoming a New Zealand citizen. A few years ago, Migration Downunder assisted Rodrigo in securing his Australian permanent residency through the Subclass 189 New Zealand Stream visa.

With his own visa granted, Rodrigo was finally able to start the process of bringing his parents to Australia to live with him.

In March 2022, Rodrigo’s parents arrived from Brazil and lodged an application for the Subclass 864 Aged Contributory Parent visa. They have now met all health, character, and financial requirements, and their application has been officially placed in the queue for processing.  Mauro and Nilce currently hold a Bridging Visa A, allowing them to remain in Australia lawfully while they await the outcome of their permanent visa. Due to the limited number of parent visa places available each year, this process may still take a few more years before the grant of their Australian permanent residence.

Rodrigo kindly shared his story with us:

“For many years I dreamt to have my parents living at least in the same country as me. I am the only child in our family and my parents always have been wonderful, understanding and supportive. I was only able to start their residence process, just after I got my residence which took 10 years. I only got my residence through Migration Downunder which they did an amazing job. Once we started the process for their contributory parent visa, there was a possibility of their application not even being put in a queue due to my mum’s past battle with cancer in her uterus. We were blessed that her cancer was considered 100% cured as the cancer didn’t come out from her womb which was then removed. We as a family were extremely anxious as we knew if due to her previous health condition their application could be cancelled and then it would change our lives. Every treatment and medical report was translated and taken to an oncologist who gave us a very positive health report and then we received this great news about their application finally being placed in a queue. We are very thankful to everyone that has helped us in fulfilling our dream of being together as a family in this beautiful country.”

Rodrigo’s journey is a powerful reminder of the importance of family and the commitment it takes to reunite loved ones through Australia’s migration system. We’re proud to have supported him and his parents every step of the way.
