On 2 September 2025, the Australian Federal Government confirmed that the Permanent Migration Program for 2025-26 will remain at 185,000 places, maintaining the same level as 2024-25.

The Skilled stream remains the core focus and will make up 71% of the program with 132,200 places available.

State or Territory nominated visas remain competitive and are awaiting their final program numbers, from the Federal Government, for the 2025-26 migration program year.

Tasmania

The Government has provided Tasmania with an interim allocation of 165 skilled visa nomination places (85 Subclass 190 places and 80 Subclass 491 places) while final program numbers for 2025–26 are being determined.

These places are being used to confirm nominations for provisionally approved applicants who could not be nominated under the 2024–25 allocation. All provisionally approved Subclass 491 applicants will be nominated; however, due to limited Subclass 190 places, priority will be given to Subclass 190 applicants in Australia whose current visas are expiring soon or who hold a Bridging visa. Remaining provisionally approved applicants have been contacted via email and will be nominated once the full 2025–26 allocation is released.

The 2025–26 Skilled Migration State Nomination Program has not yet opened to new registrations of interest. Please refer to the Tasmanian Government website for further updates.

Western Australia

The Government has issued a small interim allocation for the 2025–26 Western Australia State Nominated Migration Program (SNMP). The Western Australian Government will use this allocation to clear the remaining 2024–25 applications.

Given the limited number of places, the 2025–26 program year will not open until the formal allocation is issued by the Commonwealth Government.  You can refer to the Western Australian Government website for further updates.

South Australia

The South Australian Government has confirmed that the Federal Government has provided South Australia with a small interim allocation for the 2025-26 program year.

Given the small number of interim allocations, South Australia’s Skilled and Business Migration (SBM) will not open for new Registration of Interest (ROI) applications and instead focuses on inviting strong applicants contributing to the state’s workforce requirements, including from the ROI’s submitted in the 2024-25 program year.
